Maybe a little of both--I didn't intend to paint wings and bird shapes, but they are symbolic, strongly symbolic to me, so it doesn't surprise me when wings and feathers and bird-shapes show up. It's taking the bird's life away through the connection. I don't know if the bird is OK with that or not, because I don't know what it is that is growing there. I didn't want it to be like that, but that's what it wanted to be, so I didn't fight it. That's what came out in this 'sketch'. Was that intentional or did it just sort of come out? The latest looks to me like a bird falling but as it falls, something is emerging/growing from him. Or perhaps he's trying to hold onto it to keep from falling... but it looks too light to hold him in the air.
